Japan has the cutest and quirkiest animal cafes all over the place. They have the normal cat and dog cafes, rabbit cafe's and of course a hedgehog cafe. Who knew they had an owl cafe right? They have a couple of them in town.

About the Owl Cafe

Akiba Fukurou which means Akiba Owl is located in the Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan. It's a large studio on the 5th floor of a small street. It's a 5-minute walk from Akihabara Station.
Even though it says cafe, Akiba Fukurou does have drinks but not food. At the beginning you take off your shoes and sit on the floor and have a drink or two, we just had water. After about 15 minutes the staff brings you in and you can play with the owls.

Reservations

You do not really need a reservation and you can just walk up to the cafe and you can get a reservation. We went at 3pm so it wasn't really too busy, so you might be lucky to just get in or just put you on the reservation list and come back in 20 minutes. If you are worried about not getting time to do this then I would suggest emailing them and you can book up to 3 days in advance!

We actually got lucky since it was last minute and walked in and they said to come in 20 mins later so we had a spot available.

How much is this place?

The price is 1,500 yen ($15USD) for a one hour visit to Akiba Fukurou owl cafe.
You’ll get a chance to hold as many owls on your hand at a time; you can take unlimited photos with your phone.

The Cafe

The Akiba Fukurou cafe is a little hard to find but just look up and around when you are walking and it will have a sign, some signs are around the neighborhoods when you walk around. Once you get to the cafe, sometimes there might be a line and you will need to wait outside, but its not too bad. It's just a tiny shop so not a lot of room to wait in. We had only 4 people in front of us so it wasn't bad at all.
Once your reservation time comes, an employee will come and sit you down in a common area and give you water or what drink you ordered. Then you sit there till the next group is finished. We had about 6 people in the room with us, but it wasn't crowded in the owl part. The employees went over every owl that was in there and then briefly told us the rules. Which are: No flash, pet owls on the top of their heads or cheeks and don't make sudden movements.

The workers and owners who run Akiba Fukurou really know how to make guests feel welcome. Some people may be worried that the owls are treated badly, but I think they are wonderfully great with the owners. They can fly around freely, have comfortable perches, bowls of water and food. All these owls are raised by the owners and have grown to be used to humans and they are not freaked out by anyone that comes in there.

Overall, I think that the Akiba owl cafe was a really fun experience. I think you should check it out when you go to Tokyo again!
