If you are looking for another fun quirky and cute cafe head over to the Hedgehog Cafe Harry in Harajuku, Tokyo. I think this is the cutest little cafe ever, they have cute hedgehogs that you can play with and feed them.

If you are a lover of cute animals then the Hedgehog cafe is going to be your favorite. People that come to play here will get to hold these adorable creatures. You get your own audience with the hedgehog during your visit.

If you are wondering how hedgehogs fit in these cases, the hedgehogs are pretty tiny animals, so these little boxes with play toys are actually great for them. The hedgehogs are African Pygmy Hedgehogs and are age from 2-5 months and they are just adorable!

How this place works:

You gotta go to the 4th floor of a building and it will show you the picture of where it is located. You can purchase the ticket from the actual place or a vending machine if its busy. They will sanitize your hands and they will sit you down. You get free drinks when you purchase a ticket. The cafe workers give you a briefing on the do's and don't of handling the hedgehogs and after you are free to hang out with them. One of the briefings they said is to gently scoop them up from underneath.

You can hold the hedgehogs with your barehands, but I decided to use gloves since I did get my hand stung poked by one of the back parts on accidentally. So I would say use your gloves they hand you, sometimes the hedgehogs will lift up their spikes and thats no fun to get poked by them.

Once you pick up the hedgehogs, you gotta keep them in both hands and they will fall asleep in your hands or just play around on your hands.

When you purchase your ticket you will get a snack for the hedgehogs and you can feed them.

The snack consists of mealworms. A pair of tweezers are provided to feed the mealworms to the hedgehogs.

Unlike porcupines, hedgehogs do not shoot out their quills, they have a defensive measure, they curl up and stand up their quills. The hedgehogs at Hedgehog Cafe Harry are so accustomed to human contact that they don’t do that.

According to the cafe’s staff, hedgehogs are routinely rotated out from the guest area to a rest area. This is to ensure that they do not get tired out by all the human interaction.

Hedgehog Cafe Harry also functions as a pet shop. Locals can bring a hedgehog home for around 50,000 yen.
