Ring Road Iceland Road Trip in 1 day

Are you ready for an adventure? Iceland is one big island and you can drive it in one day. Probably not preferred, but I did it and stopped at a couple locations during this road trip.

The Ring Road is the prime route in Iceland, the main road for the whole island. You will not get lost if you just remember its Route 1. This road trip will show you the wonders of Iceland and especially Sheep, Moss, and lava on your road trip.

The Best Time to Drive the Ring Road

We drove in July, and it's pretty cold and warm sometimes. We ran into a lot of rain while on our trip, but it wasn't too bad. I know during the wintry months it gets very cold, but the summer it sometimes can reach up to sixty degrees.
So, if you want to see the sun all day and it's dim for 2 hours then July and August are the best time to go to Iceland.

Getting Prepped For This Trip:

We rented a car: When we arrived in Reykjavik, we rented a car because taxies are expensive to take and of course no taxi will take you on this trip. If you are going to do a whole trip around the ring road, I would suggest getting a camper van at Happy Campers. If you want to do the ring road and go to the major highlights then I would just rent a car. We forgot to get a hotel for this 20-hour trip, and we decided just to drive it from 12pm from Siglufjörður. So it's possible to do it in one sitting and then we went and did our Silfra Fissure snorkeling adventure at 4pm the next day of driving around. We slept in our car for 2 hours when we reached the Silfra.

Reykjavik to Siglufjörður-- North of Iceland

After checking out at the Storm Hotel at 12pm, We had a 3 day stay in North Iceland at Siglo Hotel. If you are going to stop in North Iceland, definitely check out Sigló Hótel for a fun hotel over the ocean!

Siglufjörður To The Rest of The Country

Swim at Hot Spring Thermal River: This is actually on the way to Siglufjordur. It's in the middle of Reykjavik and Siglufjordur. It's a random river in the middle of nowhere and you can take a dip before you go up north!
Stop at Diamond Beach: This is freaking awesome. The glaciers and icebergs look like diamonds which is so cool! The beach is right next to the ocean with tons of icebergs all over the place. You will enjoy this and try to go there when no one is around. We went there at 330 am.
On the road from Diamond Beach is a Plane Crash: The Solheimasandur plane crash is a plane crash from a disaster in the 1970s. If you get there at 4am-6am there won't be millions of people. We only saw one person and of course, I would suggest running on this hike. The hike is basically just lava rocks and nothing else to really see. So, having to run 4 miles will make it exciting to get to the plane crash and then you can take photos, go to the beach and go back!

Stop at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall: This waterfall is basically in front of someone's house, but it's a great way to end your day and head off to Reykjavik. It's really close and about 45 mins to Reykjavik. You will see this when you're on the road after the plane crash. It's not hard to see it off the road as it's a massive waterfall.

Go to the Silfra Fissure in Thingvellir National Park: If you want to do an awesome adventure and once in a lifetime opportunity, definitely snorkel or dive the Silfra Fissure.
