Planing a Trip to The Blue Lagoon in Iceland

When you think of Iceland and question it, it's usually about the The Blue Lagoon . Did you know that The Blue Lagoon is one of the 25 Wonders of the World! How cool is that? One thing I am kind of disappointed about is when you drive through this the water is so blue outside of the business, but once you get inside and go into the pool it's like a murky blue/green. I was disappointed in this and thought this is really gross if you think of why it's greenish/blue. It's still a great place to go and visit for a little bit.

You probably have heard that this is a huge tourist attraction. Sure, lots of these things are around the world, but trust me The Blue Lagoon is a really interesting and fun place. Don't let my saying about the blue/green water disappoint you, its still cool in some areas where it's very blue. When I went, I went on a Monday at 10 pm at night. There was not a lot of people there. So, if you decide to go I would say go at 10 pm or super early to not have millions of tourist there. We were able to swim without hitting people.
Here's my experience below about The Blue Lagoon:

Your first question is what is the Blue Lagoon?

So if you are wondering how this pool is milky blue is because it comes from geothermal seawater that is beneath the surface and is made around volcanic rocks. Lava is beneath the crust of the earth but since Iceland is made out of so many volcano's that the pressure and how it's so warm in most of these hot pools flowing all over Iceland.
The Blue Lagoon is supposed to be a healing effect if you believe in that stuff. I thought it was relaxing, not sure if it's really healing, but I could be wrong. I've heard that the blue lagoon is pretty much a Magical Place. It's a really cool place, but I'm not sure if it's magical in that sort of sense. They have research where it has anti-aging effects, but I think it's more of the mask, but you might need to go there every day for a full anti-aging effect. If you go once, I don't think the anti-aging will actually work, plus going to the lagoon is pretty expensive.
The Blue Lagoon is super famous for the site and the luxury spa and resort!

What will you do at the Blue Lagoon?

What you basically will be doing there is taking thousands of pictures, everyone will be with their gopro or phones and taking thousands of pictures haha. It's a really fun expereince for a once time thing. I don't think I could spend 55 dollars each day to spend at the pool. There are free pools around iceland as well!

Silica Mud Mask Stations

So when you venture and get your ticket, everyone gets a free Silica Mud Mask and the station is basically in the middle of the pool. You might have to find it because there wasn't a sign pointing or even near the place, so just find it in the middle of the pools. Someone in the station will give you a handful of clay that turns into a mask on your face. The person gave me so much, so I put it all over my face. It's really fun to swim with a mask on your face.

They do have a Spa Service as well.

I didn’t get to do any spa treatments because it's really expensive when you look online to buy your tickets and I had other things I purchased for other trips around Iceland. I heard that the Blue Lagoon Spa is supposed to be an amazing experience. They have in-water massages and skin treatments for your own skin and of course, they have their one skin-line and you will see it everywhere in Iceland.

Should you go in July or any time of the year?

I think you can go any time of the year. This place is a huge tourist attraction like I said at the beginning. I would suggest going really early when it opens or at 10 pm. It closes at around 12-1 am, so you can swim with fewer people around. Remember to go in early just in case there is a line. If you miss your time, you will have to wait in line. That's what some of the locals told us when we were going.
If you only have a layover or a day, I would suggest going there that day and hopefully you can do it early morning or night. Just beware that the Blue Lagoon is 45 mins from the KEF Airport, but if you have your own car its no biggie, but they do have a tour that picks you up from the airport to there.
I think if you aren't interesting in going to the blue lagoon or if you are, it's totally a great place to visit for once in a lifetime event. It should be on your Itinerary, and just to check it out is perfectly fine. I went with the lowest package, so it changes, but I saw one for 40 bucks, but mine was 55 when I went. So the prices may change depending on the month or time you decide to go.
