Isla Mujeres was AMAZING.
We went on a day trip to Isla Mujeres. We drove from Cancun to Punta Sam (where you take the ferry to Isla Mujeres. You can take the ferry, or you can pay $20 to take a faster boat which takes 15 minutes to get there. Yes, we felt ripped off, but the ferry was coming back 2 hours from when we got there and we didn't want to wait 2 hours. So, we took the faster boat. When you get there the water is so blue and see through and it was just a beautiful island. The island is only about 6k from one side to the other side.
We played on the dock, went walking around the whole island, ate at restaurants that are there. It's a tiny island, so there isn't a whole lot to do, only if you do excursions, but I don't like doing excursions when they are way overpriced. You can totally go diving, playing with sharks, and anything like at any resorts that have the list of things to do. We just wanted to explore on our own and made it work.
The funny thing that when you get there, they only have golf carts and Vespas. We were going to rent a Vespa, but we decided just to walk around and be healthier since we have been sitting at the resort a lot.
I believe this island is all about iguana's they have so many around and yes they are afraid of you, but hey at least its a fun experience to see. Also, people actually live here on this island as well. So, it's a tourist type of destination and you will hang out with locals. I love seeing other places than just the American side of things because when you already live in America you already know what it looks like and seeing the other cultures and how people actually live it's always the best.
